Tool Pouch

This object right here is a tool pouch. This was used by the army to carry their tools. The tool pouch was a very important object used during the World War II, it was used to make it easier to carry more tools at once. Without this it would of been so much harder for soldiers to carry around their tools and amo.

Genocide

Dear (pincipal of high school),
I am writing to you in part of all those who are on my side. History books all over the state are being edited and some even banned from most school. Our question is why? Why is it that our history is kept a secret from us. I know i am not the only one who is against this. We believe that times like when the Rape of Nanking, and genocide acts in other places of the world like Rwanda for example, should be taught to us. Why is it that we are not allowed to learn about that through our textbooks? Us, as americans should know what has happened and what is happening in the world around us, not only so we know what has happened and to be prepared just in case of a repeat but also so we make sure we prevent it from happening again. For example, lets say one of those event come up and hit us out of nowhere, well since we did not learn on what occured and how it was ended we won't know what to do. Our leaders and big people may know what has happened but we are next to fill out their spots and we should be well informed so we learn from their mistakes.

Cinderella Man.

KILLER: Max Baer!

This picture was of the time Max Baer killed his opponent in the ring, by hitting his head really hard. I chose this picture because it was very important when it came to the fight between Jim Braddock and Max Baer. Everyone was scared that the same thing might happen with Jimmy. This was one of the movie's most exciting parts and also the most important fight of them all!

Evolution vs. Religion

The Scopes Trail was one of the most significant event that took place in the roaring twenties. This was a trial in which a teacher got arrested for teaching his students about evolution. what happened, in my opinion should of not happened. Yes, he taught evolution, and that was his mistake and it might have not been what people wanted to believe but it is honestly not much of a big deal to arrest him for it. Now in school I believe that neither one should be taught. Everyone should be free to believe whatever they want to believe. They do not allow religion to be taught because of how everyone should be able to choose on what they want, but teaching evolutionism isn't much of a difference, because what about those people who are religious and believe that god created everything? By teaching evolutionism in school, is like telling them they are wrong and this is the correct way to think, and that is the same thing as of teaching creationism instead.

Topic 7

The Scopes Trial-  John Scopes was a teacher who got arrested for teaching evolution to his students

Prohibition-  Stop the use of alcohol,
-It was hard to enforce because:
  1. Did not ban:
  • possession
  • consumption
  • transportation
  2.  IRS enforced prohibition

-18th amendment was published which banned the manufacture and sale of alcohol.

-Prohibition was pushed by Women Organizations for two reasons: because the increase of :
  1. Domestic Violence
  2. Child Abuse
-Henry Ford was also agreeing with women organizations because like company was not as productive when his workers came to work hungover.

Flappers: Women who were considered the "revels"
  • short haired
  • smoking/drinking in public
  • wore exposing clothing (such as shoulders, cleavage)
  • gams (legs) showing
Economic Issues:
  • people were starting to have less money due to the fact that credit was first introduced to the people and they went crazy/put people in debts.
  • low interest rates
  • introduction of the Installment Plan
  • no discretionary rate
  • buying on margins
  • stocks bought not always benefited a person, when market was down they would end up losing a lot of money!

Dust Bowl: Great plains where farming land was no longer good. Dust was picked up from the ground and created HUGE clouds of dust/storm that travelled pretty far, digging up everything on its way.

Immigration Policies:
Immigration restrictions were out to the public
  1. US could thrive without immigrants
  2. Opposition to quotas disappeared
Nativism: Americans had rights to everything/immigrants had restrictions. American workers were under the law, protected, and safe, but immigrants were not they had no protection at all when working.

Significant Literary Works:  all draw attention to other people
  1. Jacob A. Riis - was about the other side of the great depression, made people realize what was actually going on
  2. Upton Sinclair - meat packing company, talks about what went on at a meat packaging factory
  3. Ralph Nader - about how cars were dangerous and presented the idea of seat belts
The Great Migration: First time ever African American gathered up and migrated from SOUTH------>NORTH as a whole.

Harlem Renaissance: African Americans came together as a group and proudly showed off their culture, music, art, poetry, literature, etc,. It was like an awakening time for African Americans.

Sacco and Vanzetti: Italian Anarchists

Labor Issues: Soldiers went back home and had to start all over, with them back factories had way too many workers, meaning they had to start to lay off some people, and were most immigrants and women. This was also the time when Great depression was starting to happen.

The Red Scare: Bolshevik Revolution- Lenin takes over power in Russia (father Lenin).. Russia goes away; USSR is formed. Americans were afraid of those who displayed un-american behaviors especially one from foreign countries

Schneck v. the United States: Espionage and Sedition Acts were declared constitutional by the Supreme Court.

George "Baby Face" Nelson

In our organized crime small group presentation I learned that all the "gangsters" we researched all has something to do with alcohol, and started their criminal years young. They were all also at some point public enemies, except Kate, she was never actually caught red handed; only the people the worked for her and her sons were caught, but nothing brought her into the action. This says that she was a very sneaky woman, no clues ever lead to her. Also George Nelson, like others were part of gangs that were always arrested but somehow managed to escape, and most dealt with robbery.

Prohibition!

People had new technologies in the 1920's, and
Red Scare happened
Our soldiers had returned home,
Help was greatly needed; the
Industrial era had begun to
Ban liquor due to
Increase of depression
Then
Immigration restrictions
Openned in American
Nation

Roaring Twenties!

Repeal the 18th amendment was what FDR pushed towards.
Organized crimes were created because of prohibition
Actions were taken by women organizations for prohibition
Refusing to let men drink and kiss them.
In their side also appeared Henry Ford, because company was not as productive when workers went to work hungover
Negotiations were happening all around; People just had to have their
Giggle water!

Transportation, possession, and consumption of alcohol
Were not banned causing prohibition hard to be enforced.
Educated business men violated the law to make more money smuggling alcohol during Prohibition era to meet the
Needs of people who wanted liquor.
This caused an
Increase in Domestic violance and child abuse.
Espionage and Seduction Acts  were also declared by the
Supreme court in the 1920's

World Chaos!

                                                                                                 January 12, 2011
Dear newspaper editors,

Due to WikiLeaks the world is going into chaos. WikiLeaks having uncovered a plethora amount of secrets of the United States, has caused us (the United States) to go crazy insane. They have uncovered some secret files, that were not suppose to be seen, heard of, or even known of by the people in the world, not even Americans. These files were the files that were nothing but the downfalls of the United States and all the bad things and mistakes we have done. The files that WikiLeaks have put up for the world to see are meant to be kept a secret and unrevealed. The United States kept this a secret for a reason. Not everything is meant to be known by everyone, some stuff are meant to be kept a secret, and some are just for the better of the people. What WikiLeaks did, honestly I believe is a really bad thing because they did not only do it to the United States but also to some other countries that they got a hold of files from. Another thing is that, for Australia to get hold of secret files from the United States and some other countries someone from inside has to e giving out information. The government does not just go out there and start talking about the issues, problems, and mistakes the united states has made. They also do not go and leave all their papers running around the places or anywhere, they are very secure and have a lot of security to keep an eye on them. Saying that means that there is someone that is giving out our information and betraying their country by letting others know our information. having to have done something like that takes a lot of skills, like having an internet page that is constantly trying to be hacked.  He is a genius and if he is not stopped that means that only more disaster is yet to happen and may cause us to go to even war. The man is thinking way ahead of everyone else. He is well set up and has everything definitely planned out, not only gathering the information, nor getting his page hacked, but also by not getting arrested. He has been all over the news and on nation television talking about what he has done and he seems to be pretty proud of it. That also takes a lot of courage which many people do not have, and him being like that might scare some people to thinking that he will end up doing some other crazy thing. As said before if this man is not stopped, our country can suffer and go in chaos!
